Dr Daniel Benz

Dr Daniel Benz (B.Med, FRACS, FAOrthA, MIPDEd) is an Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty focus on shoulder, knee and general orthopaedic trauma surgery.

Daniel graduated from Medicine at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He subsequently completed speciality orthopaedic surgical training in hospitals across NSW, including the John Hunter Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital, obtaining fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. 

Following the completion of his orthopaedic surgical training, Daniel moved overseas to complete 2 international subspeciality fellowships over two years. 

Daniel’s first fellowship was completed at the prestigious Royal London Hospital (RLH) in London the United Kingdom. This fellowship focused on shoulder surgery and upper limb trauma. The RLH is a tertiary referral academic hospital and the busiest major trauma centre in Europe. 

Following this, Daniel moved to Vancouver, Canada to complete the renowned Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy and Joint Preservation fellowship at the University of British Columbia. This fellowship provided Daniel with advanced skills in knee and shoulder surgery and the management of these injuries in professional sporting athletes. To provide the most contemporary care in his own practice, Daniel also spent time learning from internationally recognised experts in Switzerland and the United States of America. 

Daniel is passionate about providing personalised, compassionate and up to date orthopaedic care to every patient. He understands that achieving the best possible surgical outcomes requires a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, and values working closely with General Practitioners, Sports Medicine and Exercise specialists, Physiotherapists and other Allied Health professionals. Through this collaborative approach, Daniel is committed to ensuring each patient receives comprehensive, individualised care throughout their treatment journey.

Daniel holds public appointments at the John Hunter Hospital, Belmont Hospital and The Maitland Hospital where he is involved in training junior doctors and future Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA), Australian Medical Association (AMA) and International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS).
